VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT FOR ENGLISH LANGUAGE TEACHER AND TEACHER ASSISTANT (PART-TIME)

“English Access Microscholarship Program (Access)” funded by the U.S. The Department of State provides a foundation of English language skills to talented public school students from economically disadvantaged communities in Mongolia. 

The English Access Micro-scholarship Program is sponsored by the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs (ECA) and is part of the Office of English Language Program’s suite of initiatives and it is managed by the local U.S. Embassy/Consulate and implemented, supporting global English language learning needs and improving English teaching capacity.

The program exposes participants to U.S. culture, global citizenship, and democratic values through English language scholarships, professional development opportunities for teachers, and programming for alumni. Teaching focuses on critical thinking and student – centered and communicative approaches.      

The English Access Micro-scholarship Program provides a foundation of English language skills to talented youth from economically disadvantaged sectors through after school classes and intensive sessions. 

In Mongolia the U.S. Embassy in Ulaanbaatar oversees the implement of this State Department program. Each access program runs for two years, 360- hour program. Since its launch in 2006, over 600 secondary school children aged 13-20 have completed the Access program. Access program have been held in Ulaanbaatar and rural provinces across Mongolia. Over the years, the Mongolia Access program has provided opportunities to students living with disabilities, those living in informal ger district settlements, and other economically or socially disadvantaged Mongolian youth.      

English Language Instruction

English language instruction should focus on developing effective communication skills in English, in order to express ideas, engage in discussions, and comprehend written and spoken English. Through communicative, student centered teaching techniques, students should gain skills in reading, writing, listening, and speaking, fostering the ability to interact confidently in various contexts.

EARC (Educational Advising and Resource Center NGO) Mongolia is planning to administer the Access Program in below locations mentioned and is looking for part-time English teachers (4 positions) and part-time Teacher Assistants (3 positions).

Qualification: Bachelor’s Degree in English Education or above is required for both the Teacher position and for Assistant teacher position.  

Experience:   For teacher position, Minimum 3 years of English language teaching 9th and 10th graders is required. 

For assistant teacher position, teaching experience is preferred but not required. The teaching assistant must have at least a bachelor’s diploma in English teaching.  

Requirements:
– Be capable of teaching Access classes at one of the above 4 locations, at least two days a week (mostly afternoon), from the December of 2024 onwards

– Strong motivation to work with disadvantaged students

–  Ability to organize and participate in enhancement and out-of-class activities

– Willingness attend at Access teacher development programs/events (online and onsite)
